I never wanted to be famous And I never wanted to be rich Never give up, Never give up You can be as unsuccessful Never give up, Never give up You can be as unsuccessful as I’m successful I never asked to be a singer And I can barely sing a song Never give up, Never give up You can be as unsuccessful Never give up, Never give up You can be as unsuccessful as I’m successful

Halo of Hair 02:01
Trying to fill my fist with sand Feel it running through my hand Realise everything is all in all to me Set my sails to sail away/west Set my sails to sail me far from here Realise everything is all in all to me Let me sail her, let me sail her away I still remember being there, can picture your halo of hair

You said, I said “You said No” That was long ago And I didn’t say nothing You cant, I will, we won’t go That was yesterday When it all came crashing Down, around, me, and then… Something when astray when I tried to save the day That was long ago And I didn’t do nothing Think I'll go away, maybe just a day That was yesterday And it all came crashing Down, around, me, and then…

Hanging Around, feet on the ground Life was mundane but that’s ok Hanging Around, dulled to all sound Life was the same day to day Hanging around, head in the clouds Hoped to be worth more someday Hanging around, alone in the crowd Didn’t dream you’d come back to stay Now, I do what I’m told Meet you in the fold Coming around, head in the stars An old love made new is what I’ve found Coming around, hours spent in my car Discovered old feels not gone to ground From hanging around to coming around You’ve shown me love is still for me Now feet on the ground but head in the clouds You’ve shown me who I can really be But for now, I’ll do what I’m told And meet you in the fold

NEXT! 02:31
Where were you last night? Something don’t seem right I tried again, again Just trying to break the chain Can we go any faster Can we go any further Next! I don’t know what to Next! It's all because of you Something needs to change Or things will stay the same Help me work it out And stop the grief and doubt Can we go any faster Can we go any further Next! I don’t know what to Next! It's all because of you

Laundry 01:01
No, we never did the laundry And no, we never had to fight
7.
Should have made my mind up Before we had the breakup Try another make-up Guess I’ll learn to shut up It’s better to have loved and lost than to not at all Cause when you get it back it makes you feel 10 feet tall And when we’ve had enough we sometimes let it slip away To a lifetime of regrets and a long list of thrown-aways Never should have lost you After all we’ve been through Wish I could just undo The way I’ve treated you It’s better to have loved and lost than to not at all Cause when you get it back it makes you feel 10 feet tall And when we’ve had enough we sometimes let it slip away To a lifetime of regrets and a long list of thrown-aways

Donna, 5A 02:20
Saw you first in maths class With a supply teacher and the glue-sniffing psychopaths But it was when we both did art That you stole in and painted a number on my heart Donna from 5A I can’t believe you moved away Now 30 years from that day I hope I can make you stay We grew up on the same street So it was probably fated we should meet That’s what I said when way back then But when you moved I thought I’d never see you again Donna from 5A I can’t believe you moved away Now 30 years from that day I hope I can make you stay.
9.
I did everything you wanted Who could ask for more? Have another gin and tonic Have three or four Race to the bottom of a bottle And to the floor I did everything you wanted Who could ask for more? Have another cup of coffee Who still needs more? I thought that was the last time Been here before But, for you its only half time Still need to score You’ve got everything you wished for But, still want more?
10.
I want to be there when you wake up I want to be the first face you see I want to be there when we make up I want your love always for me I want to be there when the sun’s up I want that light to always fall on me I want to be there when your blood’s up I want your rage for everyone to see I’ll hold what I hold, a ball of light so bright it always burns I’ll know what I know, to hold on tight as fast as this world turns.

about

The third album by Rainbow Skull has come out of a period of change, following an even longer period of inaction. We started gigging at the end of 2019, with a full set of fuzz-pop songs and an album almost ready. Then the pandemic happened and everything stopped. The gigs stopped, and the album dropped into a black hole, rapidly lost from everyone's radar.

Instead of waiting it out, we decided to write and record a second album during the lockdown. A whole load of really good songs were rehearsed and recorded and released less than 10 months after the first album... but still in the pandemic. The second album also dropped into a black hole, this one more instantly than the first one. The songs we'd worked on so hard for months vanished with barely anyone having listened to them.

A year passed. We played a couple of gigs, did a track for the 'Welcome to Stourbridge' compilation, and released the 'Seven Short Songs' RP. Gigs were back on, but we didn't get offered any.

On the verge of just letting the band die, I decided to try something radical - we'd get together having not rehearsed at all and record what we came up with on that day. I knew we could do it, so we booked three hours at Sound Junkies rehearsal space in Brierley Hill. At the end of the time we had basic tracking for drums, bass, and guitar on seven new songs. A fortnight later we did it again, this time in the front bar of the Holly Bush Arts Centre in Cradley Heath and completed another three songs.

So here they are, no overthinking, no over-rehearsing and no over-mixing. At most, single guitar parts have been duplicated, put slightly out of sync with each other and panned left and right to give a better stereo spread. Add a backing vocal here, a synth part on the last track, and you've got raw, unadulterated Rainbow Skull.
